CAD PROCESS MODELING
|
Example Of CAD Modeling
1. Situation:
A chemical manufacturer using solvent coatings required the addition of a chemical storage facility with storage racks.
To comply with OSHA, NFPA and building codes, UTI was asked to design a facility that met the following requirements:
- Explosion relief
- Spill containment including sprinklers running for 20-minutes
- Walls and ceilings rated for 100 lbs/sq-ft
The client was unaware of building codes and the requirements. The client also needed to know if the amount of storage capacity would meet needs and the insurance carrier had to agree to the proposed design.
2. Cost for Model Development:
$2,500, including storage rack, selection and room layout.
3. Client Benefits:
The client was able to modify the design to ensure that the sprinklers and rack layouts were adequate and that the number of tote storage slots was sufficient.
- The owner secured early buy-in from its insurance company and the city; time to completion was cut.
- The owner's insurance carrier did not require relief walls; cost of building reduced by $30,000.
- The owner made a number of changes to the layout, saving an estimated $20,000 in field changes during construction.
- The plant bought off on the design, and the owner avoided costly changes in the field.
