THEORETICAL PROCESS MODELING
|
Examples Of Theoretical Modeling
1. Situation:
A polymer coatings manufacturer required a new pilot plant with three reactors of different nominal volumes: 20, 30 & 75 gallons.
Each reactor required the following as auxiliary equipment:
- Packed Column
- Condensers & Vacuum Pump
- Overhead Condensate Receiver/Decanter
- Heating/Cooling Jacket
- Heating Coil
The basic questions were:
- What should be the design basis for sizing the overhead equipment?
- What should be the design basis for sizing the reactor?
Example Of Theoretical Modeling
3. Cost for Model Development:
- These parameters were determined from known utility and process parameters & the Churn-Turbulent Model for Liquid Froth expansion in a cylindrical vessel. Cost: $5,000.
4. Client Benefits
- Each piece of auxiliary equipment was sized in proportion to it's respective reactor.
- Equipment sizing was used as the basis for equipment specs and quotations.
